Bruce Vaughan holed a 20-foot putt to beat John Cook in a playoff and win the Senior British Open, his first tournament victory either as a senior or a regular PGA Tour player.
In a dramatic turnaround at Royal Troon on Sunday, Cook squandered a three-stroke lead after 10 holes and went to the 72nd still leading Vaughan by one. But he fired his tee shot right into the rough and then played his third well short of the green. He still decided to putt, but left it 15 feet short for a bogey 5 to finish with an even par round of 71.

Hunter Mahan lies 12th on the United States points table with just two weeks left in their qualifying race.
The top eight earn automatic spots on Paul Azinger’s team, although with Tiger Woods ruled out by injury the player in ninth will be assured of a place.

Chris Wood was due to make a rare appearance for his club, Long Ashton, in the Bristol and District League last Thursday but instead found himself playing at Wentworth with Darren Clarke and Chubby Chandler. Such is the price of fame.
The occasion was an International Sports Management day and Wood, the amateur sensation at the Open at Royal Birkdale, was being wooed by Chandler, who runs ISM. Having withdrawn from the English Amateur Championship, which starts tomorrow, Wood will turn professional, probably within the next few days.
“I haven’t got an agent but I’ve got several offers to consider,” he said. “I’m keen to turn pro. That’s why you practise every day. I’ve got a great opportunity now.”

England’s Benn Barham birdied the last to finish third on 18 under with Norway’s Jan Are Larsen a shot further back in fourth. Former world amateur number one Jamie Moul, one off the lead overnight, could only manage a closing 73 to fall back into a tie for sixth.

Grip is the first step in learning how to play any “stick game”. As only our hand creates a connection between our body and the stick/ club. So to learn any game perfectly, we must concentrate primarily on our grip.

Wie will play in the Reno-Tahoe Open next week, tournament organisers announced Monday.
It will be her eighth time playing on the PGA Tour, and she has yet to make a cut. The only time Wie has made money playing against the men was on the Korean Tour, in 2006, at the SK Telcom Open.
“It’s not every day that a woman is given the opportunity to play on the greatest tour in the world,” Wie said in a statement. “This is a tremendous opportunity for me to learn from these great players and take those lessons into the future to becoming the best player I can be on any tour. This is another step in the process of making me a better player.”
