Tiger woods the famous golfer
The first name that comes in anyone’s mind when we use the term ‘golf’ is Tiger Woods. Even if you don’t know much about golf, the name Tiger Woods would still be most probably pretty familiar to you. That’s because today he has become such a famous icon that almost everybody in the whole world knows him well. For those of you who probably don’t know much about this family background, Tiger was born on December 30, 1975, in California. He is the only son of parents Earl Woods, who was a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and Vietnam War veteran of African-American, Chinese, and Native American descent, died in May 2006 from cancer, and mother Kultida Woods, partly Thai, Chinese, and Dutch. Tiger has three half-siblings from his father’s first marriage to Barbara Gray Woods. In childhood days he was known as Eldrick Woods.
This young, energetic and highly talented American golfing superstar has always worked hard at making his own identity and proving his talents in this extremely competitive world of professional golf. He has not only succeeded in doing so, but has rather gained the status of a legend today. He is undoubtedly one of the top-most successful golfers in the entire history of the sport. Tiger Woods won his 11th and 12th golf championships in the majors in 2006 while he was just merely 30 years old!Tiger started playing golf when he was barely two years old and even won two junior championships when he was eight and nine which was quite a feat at that age and gave him a kick start in his career.. He decided to turn professional in 1996, when he was 20, after high school and two years of Stanford University. Under his golfing belt Tiger has achieved 74 professional wins, including 54 with the PGA Tour, and has won in the majors 12 times during the interval of 9years from 1997 to 2006. He has a stunning record of a series of victories starting with four times with the Masters, twice with the U.S. Open, three times with The Open, and another three times with the PGA Championship.

Where it is a common sight to see women playing most sports men do golf is one that is slightly behind the times on the international stage. If you asked the average sports fan to name some famous golfers its unlikely many would name any females. There are though many big tournaments for women and like the men they are played for woman all over the world. Like with many sports though the prize money and the TV coverage for women’s golf is way behind the men’s but they are slowly catching up.
One of the biggest names in women’s golf is Michelle Wie; she came to fame by becoming the youngest qualifier for the woman’s amateur links public championship aged 10. She became famous again for her youngest ever qualifier to a professional event and the youngest ever qualifier to make the woman’s PGA cut. Being beautiful and over 6 foot tall isn’t a problem either.
