Use Hand Rotation For A Longer Drive

As a golfer, you should know that one of the most important stages of the drive is the impact. So it’s quite strange that many golfers just completely forget what to do with their forearms and their hands at impact. If this sounds like it might be you, then read on as we’ll show you some important tips to remember.

It may be that you’ve heard people talk about the wrist break but were never really sure what it meant, so you didn’t enquire further. Or maybe you’re one of those golfers who think their swing is perfect and doesn’t need to listen. Yes, we all know a golfer like that, don’t we! The wrist break is where you flip your wrist when you make contact with the ball. It can often be compared to casting a fishing rod, it’s that type of whip of the wrists. This is something you really have to avoid doing yourself.

The easiest way to try this is to put a watch on your wrist, so you can properly see the movement of your wrist through the entire action. On your downswing and very near impact, the face of the watch should be pointing directly towards where you want the ball to go. After impact, the face should be pointing down towards the ground. This is the complete flip rotation.

It is important to get this hand rotation correct, as it makes a dramatic effect on your swing and whether the ball actually goes in the direction you want!

Avoid Collapsing Your Knees

This is another common problem that effects many golfers. When you are on your backswing, you must try to not let your left knee collapse towards the right knee. The consequences of this means your shoulder will drop and cause you to overturn your hips on the downswing and at the point of impact. A quick way to practise this, is to try and hold something between your legs whilst practising your swing. It mustn’t fall to the floor or you have a problem!

Don’t Pause For Too Long On Your Golf Swing

The last tip we’ll deal with here is the pause at the top of the backswing. You’ll see many people have a two step approach to this. They bring the club up to the top of the backswing and then pause for a second or two before driving down to hit the ball. Other will have no pause at all; they just swing too quickly and lose their rhythm completely when it comes to impact. So it is important to get the balance right.

You should have a slight pause but not for too long. It should be one smooth complete technique, which of course will take some practice to get right. The important thing is to remember to not pause for too long because your rhythm just won’t be there and you may not as well have a backswing at all.

So, hopefully these small but vital golf swing tips will help you on your quest for that elusive perfect golf swing!

Enjoy your game!

One of the more common mistakes we see is golfers not positioning the ball correctly. This is such a simple mistake to make but will have a dramatic effect on your shot.

This is because how you position your ball is the start to any shot in golf. Obviously we are just talking from the tee here, as unfortunately you cannot choose your position from the rough or in a bunker!

If you happen to position the ball too far forward, then you will have to over compensate with the shoulders which causes a loop on your swing. This loop will result in your pulling the shot and hooking it off to one side. On the flip side, if you position the ball too close, then you run the risk of slicing the ball.

One tip that many of the top professional golfers use is always position your ball the same way, no matter what club you are about to use. This allows you to have a constant and fluid swing every time. The position of the ball should be level with the left hand side of your body, when facing the ball. Not too far left, just maybe level with your left chest. To adjust when playing longer or shorter shots, just widen your stance slightly to compensate.

This video gives you a more detailed and visual instruction:

Your choice of golf ball will also play a factor in your game. Yes, it’s not just all about the swing! It is important that you choose golf balls to match your clubs and style of play. Don’t just choose the popular Titleist ones, just because everyone else is using them. Did you even know that there are 3 different types of golf ball? It’s true, here they are:

1. The Two Piece Golf Ball

This type of golf ball has been designed to get the most difference but also have the durability to withstand any shots. It won’t spin as much as other balls and has a hard outer layer. Even if you have the popular Big Bertha Driver, you’ll have no issues hitting these balls a far old distance.

2. The Balata Golf Ball

If you want to take your golf to a new level and use what the top players use, then the Balata golf ball is your choice. These are a lot softer in design than the Two Piece golf ball, which means they can be used to get a huge amount of spin when they land. Tiger Woods and many other top players use this type of ball.

3. The Combination Ball

This type of ball is actually a combination of the two listed above. They allow for a mid range spin on the ball but are also durable enough for the hardest of impact.

So, the next time you go into your local golf shop, we hope you think twice about picking up the first golf balls you see. There really is more to it than first meets the eye!

There are many golf swing tips that you can follow to help improve your game. But the truth is, the fundamentals of the game never change. So always try and concentrate on the most important aspects, which including driving the ball, pitching onto the green and your putting. Once you get a good feel of these aspects, you can the try to improve each one in turn.

So Lets Start With Driving The Ball

The most important part of the drive, is to work on your back swing. It is important to try and keep the body in the same upright position, almost stiff in appearance. This helps to keep your alignment and to make sure you contact the ball in the way you want. On the downswing, try not to move the body, just keep the same position. Also, try to loosen your shoulders and not be too tense. This will prevent you from hooking the ball.

Pitching The Ball

Of all the golf swing tips, pitching is really all about practise. The more you practise, the better you will become. It is different from driving the ball because every situation will be different. The ball will be lying in a different scenario each time. It maybe in the rough, in a bunker or a simple pitch from the fairway. It is important that you try each variation of these scenrios as you never know what you will be faced with on the day.

Putting Is Very Similar

Just like pitching, you should also practise your putting as much as you can. Again, try different greens when you practise, with varying slopes, to get a good feel of what the ball will do. Start with your grip and make sure that the putter is comfortable to use. You’ll notice all the top golfers have a variety of different putters. Some prefer a small putter, where as other prefer a very long putter, such as Nick Faldo.

Hopefully these golf swing tips will help you to improve your game. The main thing is to really practise as often as you can. If you can’t get to the golf course, then think about buying a golf swing trainer which means you can practise in the garden. You can also buy large golf nets, which look similar to football goals and these mean you can practise your golf swing as often as you want.

A lot of people like to practise without going to the golf club. This is mainly because they don’t want to be embarrased if they aren’t as good as the other golfers. So, if this sounds like you, just try and learn all the golf swing tips you can and practise, practise, practise!
