Golf Equipment

Posted on 21 July 2008 by admin

Golf equipment is like many sports equipment, there is a myriad of types, manufacturers and most importantly price. There are like with most sports also basic equipment through to more complicated items.

Obviously golf clubs are the most important, although beginners can borrow or hire initially. When buying the first choice is left or right handed, then the price you can pay and the amount of clubs you want. For a hundred pounds or so you can get a basic set with the basic clubs you will need for a round of golf. If you can spend more you will be able to get better quality clubs and a greater range of club types. They are usually known as woods and irons although virtually all are now metal made. There are usually 5 types of woods to choose from and at least 15 irons including the must have putter. A professional is usually limited to 13 clubs on a professional competition and that is enough for all players. The difference between clubs is the angle of the club face that strikes the ball, the angle then decides the trajectory of the ball. The flatter angles for covering distance, the steeper for shorter distances and for evading obstacles.

Beyond the clubs comes how to carry them around. Standard golf bags hold the clubs in sections and are then carried with a shoulder strap. Next comes the option of a golf trolley that the bag can be carried on; even some of these trolleys can come with motors. Beyond these basics there are numerous items avaidible, some of more use then others.

Golf Clubs

Golf which has always been considered a royal sport is quite popular all around the world. But this game is not that easy to play as it might perhaps appear to be.

To play this sport, a golf player needs plenty of golf equipments amongst which the club is one of the most important equipment. These clubs are basically used in this sport to hit the ball. Each club is composed of a shaft with a grip often termed lance technically and a club-head. These clubs are available in plenty of designs, falling into three general categories. First one being ‘woods’, which is used for long-distance fairway shots, next being ‘irons’, being the most versatile class, which can be used for playing a variety of shots, and lastly the third one being ‘putters’, used mainly on the green to roll the ball into the cup and end the game.

There are few technical terms related to these clubs that one must know to be able to use them flamboyantly. Loft is the angle between the club’s face and the vertical plane, which is am important variation in different clubs.

It is the loft that helps a golf ball to leave the tee on an ascending trajectory, not the angle of swing. In most of the cases all swings contact the ball with a horizontal motion, impact of the club compresses the ball, while grooves on the clubface give the ball backspin. The combined effect of the compression and backspin create a lift in the ball.
