You’ll notice that whatever sport you watch, you’ll almost certainly see the competitors warm up before they perform. This is an essential part of any sport to make sure you are completely ready to begin. It gives you the best chance of performing to the best of your abilities. Golf is no exception and you’ll always see the professional golfers warming up before they go out to play a round.
It’s surprising that you don’t see many amateur golfers warm up correctly, isn’t it? Mostly you’ll see them leap from their cars, go straight in to book the round and then get out and play. Does this lack of warm up affect their round? Of course it does! Why do you think that most professional golfers go through their own individual warm ups before they start. It’s because it loosens up their bodies so they can play more fluently.
Think about the last major you watched on TV for a second. Did you not see the players practising their swings before they started? Did you not see them on the practise greens perfecting their putting before they went out? If not, you probably weren’t watching closely enough!
Warming up correctly will almost certainly improve your golf game. It is so easy to do also that you really should at least give it go next time to go and play. Just set off a few minutes earlier to get to the course, go immediately and book your round, then just take a few minutes practising your swing. You don’t need any balls and you can even do it in the car park if you want. Just make sure you don’t hit any passing pedestrians with your club!
Once you have your driving done, then just move onto the practise green or if your course doesn’t have one, just find the nearest piece of grass and start your putting practise. Again, just a few minutes is all it takes. Once you have done this for a few minutes, then you can start to think about going up to first tee.
You’ll hopefully find that just by warming up for a few minutes, that you can play better golf, reduce your score and of course, impress the other golfers! You can find more golf warm up exercises here.
