Small But Vital Golf Swing Tips

Use Hand Rotation For A Longer Drive

As a golfer, you should know that one of the most important stages of the drive is the impact. So it’s quite strange that many golfers just completely forget what to do with their forearms and their hands at impact. If this sounds like it might be you, then read on as we’ll show you some important tips to remember.

It may be that you’ve heard people talk about the wrist break but were never really sure what it meant, so you didn’t enquire further. Or maybe you’re one of those golfers who think their swing is perfect and doesn’t need to listen. Yes, we all know a golfer like that, don’t we! The wrist break is where you flip your wrist when you make contact with the ball. It can often be compared to casting a fishing rod, it’s that type of whip of the wrists. This is something you really have to avoid doing yourself.

The easiest way to try this is to put a watch on your wrist, so you can properly see the movement of your wrist through the entire action. On your downswing and very near impact, the face of the watch should be pointing directly towards where you want the ball to go. After impact, the face should be pointing down towards the ground. This is the complete flip rotation.

It is important to get this hand rotation correct, as it makes a dramatic effect on your swing and whether the ball actually goes in the direction you want!

Avoid Collapsing Your Knees

This is another common problem that effects many golfers. When you are on your backswing, you must try to not let your left knee collapse towards the right knee. The consequences of this means your shoulder will drop and cause you to overturn your hips on the downswing and at the point of impact. A quick way to practise this, is to try and hold something between your legs whilst practising your swing. It mustn’t fall to the floor or you have a problem!

Don’t Pause For Too Long On Your Golf Swing

The last tip we’ll deal with here is the pause at the top of the backswing. You’ll see many people have a two step approach to this. They bring the club up to the top of the backswing and then pause for a second or two before driving down to hit the ball. Other will have no pause at all; they just swing too quickly and lose their rhythm completely when it comes to impact. So it is important to get the balance right.

You should have a slight pause but not for too long. It should be one smooth complete technique, which of course will take some practice to get right. The important thing is to remember to not pause for too long because your rhythm just won’t be there and you may not as well have a backswing at all.

So, hopefully these small but vital golf swing tips will help you on your quest for that elusive perfect golf swing!

Enjoy your game!
