Bruce Vaughan holed a 20-foot putt to beat John Cook in a playoff and win the Senior British Open, his first tournament victory either as a senior or a regular PGA Tour player.
In a dramatic turnaround at Royal Troon on Sunday, Cook squandered a three-stroke lead after 10 holes and went to the 72nd still leading Vaughan by one. But he fired his tee shot right into the rough and then played his third well short of the green. He still decided to putt, but left it 15 feet short for a bogey 5 to finish with an even par round of 71.

Padraig Harrington enjoys few moments more than the walk down 18th fairway of a century-old links course, especially with a four-shot lead in the British Open and the engraver putting the final touches on the oldest trophy in golf.
Harrington made two, and an eagle, going four-under on his last six holes to shoot 69 and win the 137th British Open by four strokes over Ian Poulter (69).

The last time a golfer did what Greg Norman has a chance to do in the British Open, his name was Old Tom and the American Civil War had recently ended. So it is fitting that here in the land where 100-year-old golf courses are regarded as new, Norman is one step from rewriting his own history, and one of golf’s oldest records.
Norman, 53 years old and a newlywed, is leading the 137th British Open by two strokes after three rounds. He is taking dead aim at his third claret jug, and could break the record set in 1867 by Tom Morris, who at 46 became the oldest golfer to win an Open. Norman also could become the oldest winner of a major championship, surpassing Julius Boros, who at 48 won the 1968 P.G.A. Championship.
