The Importance Of Golf Ball Positioning

Posted on 29 May 2008 by admin

One of the more common mistakes we see is golfers not positioning the ball correctly. This is such a simple mistake to make but will have a dramatic effect on your shot.

This is because how you position your ball is the start to any shot in golf. Obviously we are just talking from the tee here, as unfortunately you cannot choose your position from the rough or in a bunker!

If you happen to position the ball too far forward, then you will have to over compensate with the shoulders which causes a loop on your swing. This loop will result in your pulling the shot and hooking it off to one side. On the flip side, if you position the ball too close, then you run the risk of slicing the ball.

One tip that many of the top professional golfers use is always position your ball the same way, no matter what club you are about to use. This allows you to have a constant and fluid swing every time. The position of the ball should be level with the left hand side of your body, when facing the ball. Not too far left, just maybe level with your left chest. To adjust when playing longer or shorter shots, just widen your stance slightly to compensate.

Your choice of golf ball will also play a factor in your game. Yes, it’s not just all about the swing! It is important that you choose golf balls to match your clubs and style of play. Don’t just choose the popular Titleist ones, just because everyone else is using them. Did you even know that there are 3 different types of golf ball? It’s true, here they are:

1. The Two Piece Golf Ball

This type of golf ball has been designed to get the most difference but also have the durability to withstand any shots. It won’t spin as much as other balls and has a hard outer layer. Even if you have the popular Big Bertha Driver, you’ll have no issues hitting these balls a far old distance.

2. The Balata Golf Ball

If you want to take your golf to a new level and use what the top players use, then the Balata golf ball is your choice. These are a lot softer in design than the Two Piece golf ball, which means they can be used to get a huge amount of spin when they land. Tiger Woods and many other top players use this type of ball.

3. The Combination Ball

This type of ball is actually a combination of the two listed above. They allow for a mid range spin on the ball but are also durable enough for the hardest of impact.

So, the next time you go into your local golf shop, we hope you think twice about picking up the first golf balls you see. There really is more to it than first meets the eye!
